When the car door opened on Sunday, I was greeted with oa HUUUGE hug. Turns out, Ethan was as happy to see me as I was to see him! When I first photographed Ethan 3 years ago, I remember coming home and showing Matthew my camera saying, “Isn’t this little boy soooooo cute!??!” (I’ll post a picture of him from 2006 at the end!)
Obviously, I was delighted when his mom found out I moved back to Georgia and scheduled another session. This time, I got to photograph Ethan AND his brother, Will. Enough writing, I have a lot of images to post!
I love seeing siblings hug! (I love it so much, I make ‘encourage’ Ross & Rayna to hug one another each night before they go to bed.)
What a sweetheart! One of the easiest children I’ve ever photographed…
Before our session, Cindy made it very clear I had a challenge in front of me. She told me that, not only does Will not smile, but he runs away from the camera. Although I did get plenty of smiles from Will during our session, I actually really liked his seriousness in this image.
Now on to some smiles of the boys together…
Who can resist a little boy with a freckles on his nose?
As promised, here’s Ethan years back… (Wasn’t he a doll?!?!)
John & Cindy- Thanks for asking me to photograph your boys! I look forward to more sessions with your family!
I love everything about the lake. It seems like the only place in the world where drinking Mountain Dew and eating Golden Oreos for more than 3-hours straight is not only normal, but expected. I love how warm the water is. I love watching Ross and Rayna jumping into the water… climbing back into the boat… jumping back out… climbing back in. (Repeat as many times as possible each time to boat stops.)
Should I give a disclaimer for this next picture? Yeah, that’s probably a good idea…
By the age of 3, Matthew was on his dad’s shoulders skiing with him. By the age of 5, Matthew was skiing alone. He’s been slalom skiing (only one ski) since he was 8 years old. Ross is also a natural in the water. (Thanks to Cindy with Infant Swimming Resource, Ross has been swimming *without floaties* since he was only a year old.)
It seemed only natural that Matthew would get Ross out there with him the first chance he got. The smile on Ross’ face said it all. He LOVED it! He had been watching Matthew jump the wake earlier in the day. While skiing together, Matthew asked, “Ross- Are you having fun?” Ross’ reply was, “Yeah, but when we gonna’ jump?”
I remember sitting at Ryan’s Steakhouse one night when I was really young and telling my dad I wanted a pet pig. The next day, I had the pinkest, cutest potbelly pig you’ve ever seen. Within a few years, other family pets included: a skunk (deglanned, of course), a goat, squirrels, 3 English Mastiffs and, our personal favorite, ‘Rocky’ the raccoon. My dad has always done whatever he could to make us happy.
Although I’m sure he’d love to tube and ski at times, he’s always been the official boat driver. Since this has been the memory of my dad at the lake for as long as I can remember, I thought I’d just take a picture of him just simply driving the boat. Although he’s happy driving the rest of us, he’ll occasionally offer up some advice. You may not be able to hear it through this picture, but he just told Matthew for the sixth time, “You can do what you want, but I wouldn’t be diving that deep without a life jacket on.”
That’s my dad. Quirky and fun, yet very cautious. This is the same man who recently taught himself how to ride a unicycle, but decided he should wear a helmet when he rides it. If you know him, you’ve gotta’ love him.
I was about to put my camera away when I noticed Matthew and Rayna together up front. As Rayna silently looked out at the lake in front of her, Matthew was gently rubbing that little, tiny foot that had found itself resting on his knee. I’m a sucker for those sweet, tender and real moments.
Our day was almost over. The sun had just began to set. The most beautiful, golden glow was reflecting off the water all around us.
I was sitting beside Matthew with the warm wind blowing in my face.
As if it could get any better, I had the sweetest little girl sitting in my lap with her head heavily resting on my shoulder.
I’m so glad Matthew got a picture of us together before our day was over.
Just for the record, we did have the perfect ending to our day at the lake: Patty melt plate, hashbrowns scattered, extra pickles.
In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll be more clear… Waffle House!
These are just great, looks like y’all are having so much fun!! It is good to see some pictures of you since you are normally the one behind the camera.

Love it! I grew up pretty much on a lake all the time, my grandmother has a lake house and there is nothing like it!
I met Autumn and Ryan on Saturday for their engagement photos. Although Autumn said this was her first professional photo shoot, I had a hard time believing it. She and Ryan were so natural in front of the camera.
They also knew exactly where they wanted their engagement shoot. Not only is it a nice location, but it is also where they will be getting married in a few months. Perfect!
In addition to being totally laid-back and picking a perfect spot, they also planned for an outfit change for both of them. (Which I love!)
Autumn and Ryan- I had a great time with you guys! (Your gallery is uploading as we speak. Check my website tonight to see the rest of your proofs.)
Rayna ended up in bed between us early in the night. In addition to her sleeping side-ways, every hour or so she would either lose her ‘Baby’ or try to wake Matthew up to play.
Just a few hours later, Ross woke-up crying because all the ice was melted in the water beside his bed. When he came into our room, devastated about the loss of his ice, he spotted Rayna.
At 3pm, I guess Ross didn’t consider our Queen-sized bed not being big enough for 2 adults, a side-ways sleeper and himself.
Time to make room for one more person.
After the third time of me almost falling out of bed, in the wee hours of the morning, I relocated myself and Rayna to the guest room downstairs.
Sleepless nights… tossing and turning… babies crying…
It’s all worth it to wake-up to this…
Amanda- She’s doing much better. Thanks for the advice on Saturday. I was so upset b/c her fever has never been that high. Anyways, aside from getting her teeth cleaned by the dentist, she’s had a pretty good day!

You really should stop making Rayna wear colored contacts!
ChristyAugust 17, 2009 - 5:48 pm
“Dear Rayna- Aunt Hannah is just jealous of your baby blues. You’ll learn to ignore her. Love, Mama”
DebbyAugust 21, 2009 - 11:56 am
Gorgeous picture, I am jealous of the baby blues too!!!!
When I was a little girl and would spend hours riding my go-cart, Amanda sat beside me.
A few years later, when my dad had an asthma attack in the car and we drove as fast as we could to the hospital, Amanda was buckled in right there beside me.
When a public pool had to be evacuated as a result of someone burping in my face and me throwing-up in the water, Amandacaused itwas right there beside me.
When I said ‘I Do,’ with flowers in her hand, Amanda stood right there beside me.
Years ago when I told Amanda I wanted to start my own photography business and needed ‘models’ to build my portfolio, she went over and beyond. She got releases from the children’s parents she was babysitting, drove them all to our shoot and told everyone she talked to about my business. Amanda was still beside me.
Seconds before and just a few moments after I delievered Ross, everyone else followed the doctors as they took Ross away, but Amanda sat down on my hospital bed and stayed right there beside me.
When I was all packed-up to move across the country to Arizona, Amanda, and her tears, were there beside me.
Mine and Amanda’s parents had been friends before Amanda and I were born. Because of that, there has never been a time when Amanda has not been in my life. Not only is Amanda one of my biggest fans, she’s also very loyal. During the time we were in Arizona, she didn’t have any photography done of her family and boys. We were LONG overdue for a session!
I’ll start with one of my favorite images. Aside from Presley being extremely free-spirited (which I absolutely adore), he is truly a happy, happy child. I’ve been known to get a little deep with my interpretations, but, to me, this image represents JOY at its purest.
Cash is like his big brother- very happy and VERY cute!
Family portraits can be some of the most challenging shots of the entire session. If there’s more than one child, any children under the age of eight OR a furry, 4-legged friend, that just kicks everything up a notch. Don’t worry- I AM a professional! I can pretend to give myself a mild concussion (making the little kids smile), while barking like a dog (making the dog very confused, YET focused) AND remind the parents to KEEP looking at me and smiling. All in the same breath.
That’s a sweet hug!
We let the kids play and got a few of Amanda and Paul together…
Cash was taking a break from pictures and changing outfits, but this face was just too wonderful not to photograph!
I think it’s really important to document stages and ‘things’ that are important to children. For Presley, it is his blanket. I want to not only capture a child’s smile, but the very things and emotions that their parents will always long to remember.
Wow! I had to wipe my eyes to even look at the pictures, thanks for making me sound “good”! I knew they would be perfect and they are! You did amazing like always, I love the picture of Paul and I in the background, it was even better that I had envisioned! I love you and thanks for being there for me, and ALL that you have done for us! P.S.- the broccoli casserole was just like yours!– YOUR AN AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER BUT MORE THAN THAT, AN AMAZING FRIEND! Love, Amanda
ChristyAugust 6, 2009 - 9:27 pm

OK so this is Amy NOT Amanda. But it filled in Amanda’s info automatically….Anyway, GREAT pictures Christy. I love the one with Duke too. He’s so handsome!!! And of course I have the most handsome nephews ever too….don’t know where they get their looks from can’t be hereditary or anything. HAHAHAHA!!!! It’s always nice to have a dependable friend who is there for you unconditionally and loves you just the way you are. And Christy and Amanda have that kind of friendship. At least she calls Christy back……

I’m tearing up. Those precious angels….these pictures are perfect! You are all such beautiful people….and you captured the beauty of the Wade family perfectly. You are an amazing photographer!
MEET JILL: Jill saw a session I did for one of her friends last year. Like a lot of people, it had been a while since she had professional photographs taken of her two children. She was eager to schedule, excited about the session AND willing to drive an hour for the shoot. Needless to say, I was really looking forward to meeting her and her kids.
Now, MEET GRIFFIN: Although this picture doesn’t show it, Griffin eventually came to love me. (I’ll prove it later.) At this point, however, he only loved his mom.
Carley was a different story. We were BFF from the beginning. (Doesn’t she look a little like a young and prettier version of Jennifer Aniston?)
Jill only had one request. She wanted a photograph of Griffin on his dad’s old John Deer tractor. I love photographing kids with items that have been in the family for generations.
One of the kids together…
The kids alone…
I really love this picture of the kids together.
I knew I could win Griffin’s heart. It just took some work!
My heart naturally gravitates towards images of a mom and her kids. Although Jill said she just wanted photographs of the kids, I had to get a few of her too!
One last picture of Carley…
Thank you, Jill! I hope you guys had as much fun as I did!
Matthew and I were REALLY excited about taking Ross to his FIRST baseball game…
We were so excited, in fact, we arrived over an hour early.
NOTE TO SELF: If you’re taking a 3-year old to a baseball game (OUTDOORS) (IN JULY), don’t arrive over an hour early if you want to stay for more than one inning.
The first 20 minutes were great. Ross jumped on the giant Spiderman….
I handed the camera to Matthew where Ross and I could get some pictures together…
We were there for just enough time to get on the big screen!
We had been in our seats about 20 minutes when Ross told Matthew, “I’m ready to go. I’m tired. See…” (as he opens his mouth as much as possible and attempts to make a yawning-sound)
Oh well.
We went (kind-of).
We ate peanuts and ice cream.
I officially marked ‘Take Ross to a baseball game’ off my list.
More than anything, Matthew and I got to spend some much-needed one-on-one time with Ross. That in itself was worth a $3.50 Coke!
What great pics! Matthew did a great job, I love the one’s of you and Ross. The one of the screen is great, but my favorite would HAVE to be the first shot! LOVE IT!!
Debby FergusonJuly 31, 2009 - 1:27 pm
I love these pictures of Ross’ first ball game! You have such an awesome way of expressing things. You really should be a writer! You are just so passionate about things and it comes through – that is so rare and refreshing. Really great picture of you and Ross too, and the close up of him – Matthew did a great job!
