When online registration opened for our Small Group (through 12Stone), I became crazy-excited when I got an email from Ashley and Jason saying they were thinking about joining.
It was perfect… I have always had a desire to lead a Small Group. And, since music is so important to me, I always envisioned live-worship. (The first time I met Jason was when he was singing and playing his guitar at our youth group over 12 years ago. I knew that if Jason joined, my dream for music at our Small Group would be an awesome reality.)
Turns out, our Small Group wasn’t all about me and my desires. Luckily though, God must have known how much Jason’s talent would bless everyone in our group each week. To my delight, Jason and Ashley DID join our Small Group. Some of my favorite moments have been Jason leading worship in our living room.
Jason and Tanaya have joined their musical talents in their band ‘Dixie Dandelions.’ They have a lot of exciting things in store next year. But, first things first: Pictures for their album!
In case you didn’t notice, I’ll just clear the air: Tanaya is beautiful. Aside from winning almost every pagent she entered, she also has catchlight (aka: light reflection) in her eyes even when she’s looking AWAY from the camera. Impressive-stuff.
Absolutely stunning photos! You captured the essence of these two beautiful talents…
Huge fan from San Francisco (Tanaya’s sis-n-law)!

God has blessed them both with enormous talent and they are so humble and are true servants of the Lord. These two can SANG. I remember my day of SALVATION…Jason sang a song by Third Day called “Thief”. It brought me to my knees and I’ve been there ever since!I pray they soar and continue to spread God’s word and inspire others to do so as well.

Not one but two very special weeds in God’s garden!
I know it’s wrong, but as I pulled into Chuck and Erin’s driveway, a pretty strong case of house-envy hit me. It wasn’t JUST their incredibly gorgeous home; It was their land… barn…fire pits and cows. (Yes, I’m actually jealous of fire pits and cows. I am a country girl at heart.)
We met Chuck & Erin over 5 years ago at our first Small Group at church. Erin is a photographer, but, like most photographers, she wishes she had family pictures and personal pictures with her children. I photographed their family a year ago. However, since that time, something wonderful happened to their family…
God had a special plan for Mae to join this wonderful family! It’s obvious how much her family loves her. Although she really loves her dad and brothers, here’s where she’s the happiest…
Just because she’s wearing totally trendy knee-boots doesn’t mean she can’t pull-off a tough shot with her 3 brothers…
To read more of Mae’s story, click here to read Erin’s blog.
Chuck & Erin- Thank you for inviting me out to your home. As always, photographing your family felt more like play than work! I am so thankful for God’s many blessings on your family.
In my last post, I talked about one of my favorite places in San Francisco being the Saturday morning market.
Here’s THE mystery of my trip: Matthew actually preferred THIS (1lb pear)…
to this…
As I post these pictures, I noticed a common-theme:
‘Why I Love Matthew’
1. He enjoys me taking pictures of him acting like he’s hanging over a large body of water. (If I would have taken the time to crop the grass out below his feet, this picture might be a little less-weird.)
2. He can take a quick look at a totally confusing map in a new city and, without a second thought, have the rest of our day planned out. (Since I have NO sense of direction, I am VERY impressed with this!)
3. He’s a loyal fan. He’s been a San Francisco 49er fan as long as he can remember. (All of his school pictures are of him wearing his 49er shirts.) Since the team has had better years, he’s always getting the question: “Growing up in NW Arkansas, how did you ever become a ‘9er fan?”
This was our first 49er HOME game together. It was great to see him in his element. Even this little guy was a huge fan…
4. He likes carrying on our strange traditions. We started this on our first ski trip together in Colorado. Some of our favorite shots: feet in the sand (honeymoon), feet at Eiffel Tower in Paris, feet together in hospital bed hours after Ross was born. Anyways, I always seem to forget. I love that he always remembers….
5. He tries so hard to ‘compose’ and ‘focus’ his pictures correctly. Since it was my 30th birthday, I got to be the subject. There were about six before this shot where the bricks were completely in focus, but I was un-recognizable. But, he did it!
6. As Matthew lays in my lap right now watching football, I am typing this blog and asking him, “Did people clap or yell as you drove down Lombard Street?” Without looking away from the t.v., he says, “I think they were screaming, ‘Get out of the way! That guy has no brakes!’ ”
Yep. That’s why I love going on trips with Matthew. Most people drove about 5-12 MPH down the “the crookedest street in the world.” I’m so use to his driving, I didn’t think anything about how fast we were taking the turns. Until, however, we got to the bottom and people acted like we had just broke some type of record getting down.
Before we raced down Lombard Street, we drove our rental car down the Highway 1 coastline.
I have a ton more, but I’m going to finish up with a few random details from the trip that reminds me of one of our new favorite cities…
Matthew’s school pictures are of him in 49er shirts, Ross’ school pictures will be of him in Spider Man shirts. 🙂
I love the pictures! I’ve already looked at them twice today!

Leave Ross and his SpiderMan-obsession out of it! ‘Tanks for the comment. Love ya!
It had been over a week since Matthew and I returned home from our trip to San Francisco to celebrate our 30th birthdays. On that particular night, the kids had been asleep several hours when Matthew glanced across the desk and asked, “Have you even looked at our pictures from San Francisco yet?”
Um. Well, kind-of. Sort-of.
Is it just me, or does it seem like it takes FOOOOREVER to get back into the swing of things after returning from vacation? In addition to being out of groceries and clean clothes, I had emails, orders and sessions that I had to take care of. I’ve been looking forward to getting caught-up where I could start to share some pictures and stories from our awesome trip to San Francisco last week. Since I can’t post all of them in one night, I’ll just make today about some of our favorite places.
The day we visited the Golden Gate Bridge, it was very foggy. Coming from someone who wears a wetsuit in July, I couldn’t believe people were actually surfing!
Matthew called our hotel in advanced to let them know we were celebrating my 30th birthday. They upgraded us to a suite on the top floor. Although we were rarely in our room, I loved our morning view as we rushed to get out the door and enjoy the day…
Best advice we received: “Buy a cable car pass.”
The first day, we started off as tourists, patiently waiting in line with all of the others for the next cable car. By day three, we were literally running more than a block to jump on a cable car after it took off. We felt sooo local (and out-of-shape).
Although this was low on Matthew’s list for some strange reason, the Saturday morning market was one of my FAVORITE places from our entire trip.
Let me explain. (I’m sure you’ll side with me…) Incredible photographers selling their prints taken from around the world.
Gorgeous colors and patterns from all the locals selling fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, breads and herbs.
Annnnd… the most wonderful smells (will post pictures later) of chicken, beef and pork cooking on open grills by the water.
Fresh flowers from the market…
These are the famous Victorian houses on “Postcard Row.” It is also the home shown in Full House’s opening credits. I’ll be honest… it was a loooong, uphill walk for this simple picture.
If we would have eaten lunch by 2pm like most normal people, we could have hung-out at Pier 39 for hours. However, although we loved watching the sea lions, the only thing on our mind was eating clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. (Picture tomorrow!)
As we took a ride to the Golden Gate Bridge, I pulled out my San Francisco magazine and noticed “The Top 20 Things to do.” Number 13 (“Hanging off a cable car”) was definately one of Matthew’s favorite things!
We decided to get just a few more hours in before our flight left. I wanted to get a picture of Matthew on the cable car. A government worker who was picking up trash saw me taking Matthew’s picture and instructed me to get in the picture too. I turned my camera over to him and jumped on the cable car. (We got a picture looking at the camera, but I love the kissing picture the best!) That government worker must have been a photographer on the weekends because I thought he did a pretty awesome job photographing me and Matthew together.
I. love. you! I want to go back to San Fran….now! Great pics, as always. Oh, and did you get my crazy voicemail today?! Wowsers! 🙂

So… now i’m DYING to go to San Fransisco! jeff and i will HAVE to treat ourselves. And get the scoop from you on all the cool things to do before we go! Beautiful pics, as always. I love how you capture all the colors, the moments. Is all just perfect!
It started as a family session… …yet ended with me feeling like I had known each one of them for years.
We were given permission to end this session at Mill Creek’s football field where Tommy spends most of his time. It warmed my heart to see, not only is Tommy a great football player, he is also a wonderful big brother to Tyler.
And what’s NOT to love about this face?!? He had just accidentally fallen down in the grass. I stood above him and told him to look mad and serious. THAT was impossible! The more we both tried to be serious, the harder we both laughed!
Tommy- Congratulations on your senior year! I enjoyed getting to know you and your family!
I have a theory: No matter how much you plan for it, the day of your session will NEVER run smoothly.
If your child misses his nap, spills chocolate milk all over his clean ‘picture’ clothes, has a meltdown getting into the car, simply decides he doesn’t really want pictures that day or, my favorite, you and your spouse are both a tad-bit irritated with one another on your session day…
It can only mean one thing: Your family is perfectly normal.
The same was true for Allen and Amy. Our session started a few minutes late because, during their lengthy trip to our location, Brody had to stop a few times for a bathroom break. Although I can totally relate to the ‘pressure’ of family pictures, my goal for every family who gets out of their car feeling the stress of the moment is to let them know they can take a D-E-E-P breath and spend the rest of the time just watching their kids having fun. And that’s exactly what we did! (Easy, huh?)
Yes, it was work to get Harrison out of his mom’s arms, but when I did, we had a great time playing together. (Have I said lately how much I adore photographing little boys?)Brody was so much fun to photograph too! In case you needed proof of how much Harrison really loves Amy…Just a few more of the boys…
Thanks, Allen & Amy! I enjoyed meeting your family and playing with your sweet boys!
I don’t know how it happened, but we almost missed one of our favorite events of the season. For the past week, we had been telling Ross we would go pick out a pumpkin. But between rain, out-of-town family coming to visit and a lot of sessions, we kind-of lost track of the time. As you all know, it’s impossible to break a promise to a 4-year old boy. So, despite the rain, we jumped in the car for a 45 minute drive to Jaemor Farms.
The last picture is THE story of Ross and Rayna. It is typically Ross chasing Rayna- laughing hysterically because he knows they are both doing something they shouldn’t be doing. However, today, Ross was the first one who decided to take off through the corn maze. Rayna wasn’t far behind.
The picture I did NOT take but should have was just a few seconds after this one. They both managed to slip and fall in the mud. No amount of wetwipes could undo the kind of damage that was on them from head to toe. Matthew’s car will never be the same, nor will booth #3 at our local Waffle House.
THOSE PICTURES ARE SOOOO AWESOME!!! I COULDN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF THEM!!!!
Awesome pictures. Yeah tanaya and tamarra always gave me beauty envy. These pictures are fabulous
Great pictures. They are both very talented. I would love to hear some of their stuff. I need to FB Ashley.
Wow Tanaya…gorgeous!
