It was Friday at 3 o’clock. My phone had just informed me that, not only was ‘heavy rain’ in our forecast, there was a big STORM predicted after dark too.
Honestly, I just wanted to go get the marshmallows, Hershey bars and graham crackers from the backpack by the door, put them back in their spot in the pantry and do what we do EVERY Friday night… Try a new {INDOOR} PIZZA place.
But, Matthew was REALLY persistent. And if he wouldn’t have had a big smile on his face when he said “Fun is what you make of it!” AND TOLD ME HE WAS LEAVING ME IF I DIDN’T WANT TO GO, I would have ended-up missing out on a night filled with, yes, rain and heavy winds. But, ALSO, more FUN than our family’s EVER had sitting indoors, wondering who is going to get the last slice of supreme pizza.
Devil’s Den State Park was the perfect spot to make our 1st (but certainly not last) camping debut!
We hiked IN THE RAIN and enjoyed the refreshing ‘mist‘ that kept us cool.
We explored the creeks and river.
Thanks to loud thunder, steady rain, a toddler who ate 3 too many smores and no air mattress, we COULDN’T SLEEP ‘got to enjoy lots of quality time together’ in the wee hours of the morning!
“Mom… Are you SURE the rain’s not going to get in the tent!?!?”
If bug-spray ever makes you itch, Ruthie’s got razor-sharp nails that come in handy for back-scratching!
Those $1 flashlights from Wal-Mart were the BEST investment!
Thanks for being part of our adventure!
If you’re looking for a way to make some GREAT family memories, get away from normal life, enjoy nature and, even BETTER, enjoy one another, you’ve gotta‘ grab a tent and give it a try! It was the BEST $13 (camping site) we’ve spent in a long, long time!
That was such a fun experience! Can’t wait to go again soon! You did an amazing job capturing so many of our special moments!
[…] After our last camping trip to Devil’s Den State Park, my family fell in LOVE with camping! We love experiencing different places, so we decided to try Roaring River, a State Park in Missouri, on our 2nd trip. […]
Hi there,
Not sure if you know this or not but there is also a spring in Florida called “Devils Den”. They have camping as well but the main attraction is the actual spring which is an underground one. You can check it out here: https://britonthemove.com/devilsdenspring/
If you come to Florida I think this is somewhere you and your family will enjoy… Nikki
Ps, I love the wall paper on your site 🙂
