Imperfection Celebrated

It happened on Thursday.  Wasn’t the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last time.

Ross and Rayna came home from school with some pretty impressive Valentine’s Day goodies from their classmates.

There were home-made baked goods, wrapped in a super-cute, see-through heart bag.
There were adorable finger-painted cards that would put any Pinterest project to shame.
There was a dental care pack- complete with a toothbrush, dental floss, mouthwash and toothpaste.
There was even a personalized photo card.

As I sat on the floor looking through all the goodies with the kids, I started to feel a little insecure.
Was I the ONLY mom who skipped all the super-creative projects and simply bought the plain box from the store?!?!?

A few hours later, I found myself looking at a few pictures I’d snapped of Ross and Ruthie in the backyard earlier in the day.  I was really happy to find, right before we went in, I’d managed to have gotten ONE good one of them together.

Seconds before DELETING all the ‘bad‘ ones, I realized something…

Instead of this blog being a place where the photos are perfect and stories are dreamy, it’s MUCH more important to post REAL LIFE.  In a world where social media is everywhere and only the best photos and stories are usually shared, it’s important for other people (moms especially), to know that they aren’t the only ones who feel like they may never ‘keep up’ with what we think others have in their lives.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here’s the photos that, if it weren’t for this blog post, would have been quickly deleted:

1.   SILLY Ross.  (Concerned Ruthie.)
2.  UNINTERESTED Ross.  (Distracted Ruthie.)
3.  AFFECTIONATE Ross.  (Scared Ruthie.)

Yes, we FINALLY got a good one of them together.  But, as you can see from the series above, nothing is as perfect as it seems!
