  • Christy… The Girl Behind the Lens

Every great success story starts with a dream. For me, my dream was to always have a camera in hand and a great story behind every shot. In Kindergarten, it was bringing my camera to Show N’ Tell when everyone else brought toys. In middle school, it was getting to know the employees at my local photo lab. In high school, it was an essay I wrote about my 'dream job' of being a photographer.

I have been truly fortunate to watch my lifelong passion of photography bloom into a career and source of happiness in my life. Part of that happiness comes from my love of children and embracing that in my business. My adoration for kids allows me to engage them in a way that makes sessions feel more like a play-date! Whether it’s chasing them around trees or fields, chatting with them about their favorite flavor of ice cream or watching them laugh while I make a funny face, I find it truly uplifting to be a part of their world.

In the same way that every picture tells a story, so too does my blog. I use it to capture pieces of both my professional and personal life. It includes client session photos, engaging stories behind those clients, and even little glimpses into my own family, friends and interests. The curls in my daughter's hair and the cool rock my son found are just a few of the things that inspire me every day!

Florida 2016 (Part 1)

When I look back at my favorite moments of the year, most of my BEST memories are made during our summer trip to the beach.  Part of it is the luxury of sitting in the sand and simply watching the kids play.  However, I think the MAIN reason it’s so special is because we meet my parents and sister’s family.

For a week, we have NO agenda.  (With the exception of finding a restaurant with killer hush-puppies or garlic-cheese bread and blackened fish Reuben sandwiches.)

We eat (a lot).
We laugh (a lot).
The kids catch smelly-critters and make a total MESS of the room!

Ruthie’s my early-morning girl!  She and I LOVE going out super-early to chase the birds and enjoy the beach before the sun makes it’s grand appearance.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIP:  Unless you’re comfortable shooting in Manual Mode (where you control all the settings), TAKE PHOTOS in the MORNING or EVENING.  The light is GORGEOUS and very flattering to all skin tones!

We always try to get a stranger to snap a super-quick photo of us on the beach before we leave.  One of these years, I’m going to put some effort into it; but, at this point, it’s just not worth it to make everyone match (…or SMILE in Ruthie’s case)

Waiting on Naomi…  (She’s due TODAY!)

Ross may break a few rules on vacation, but he sure is FUN!

Thanks for stopping by!
I have a few more I plan to post tomorrow.

Summer Visits & Memories

Although we lived close to Matthew’s sister in Georgia, some of our BEST memories together were when both of our families would visit their parents (aka: VACATION!) in Arkansas each year.  Now that we are living here, it’s so fun to see even MORE summer memories when Michelle and her kids visit each summer!

When I married Matthew, I had NO idea how fortunate I was to ALSO get his parents in the deal!

Ross is the master of games.  Most start out really fun and end with Ruthie crying or getting her feelings hurt…

Great splash, Austen!  So good, Ruthie decided to jump in too!

Go, Ruthie!  You’ve got Ross’ support!

Kenslee’s missing a few teeth.  How cute!

Debbie Fortner - I would love <3 to have a copy of some of these pics. The one of Rayna & Kenslee sitting in the chair is my favorite. If you will could you email me a copy of that one. And some of Ross & Ruthie. I love <3 them all so much. 🙂

Summer Memories

Summer memories in Georgia have always been special; but, after moving away, the new moments are even more precious and meaningful.

As always, Rayna and her dear friend spent as much time together as possible!  (Here’s a video with some pictures from almost 5 years ago!)

Squeezing in a quick-trip to the lake after church!

While many of us are content skiing with 2 skis, Matthew slaloms off a deck!

My lil’ dancing gal…

…and banana pepper pickin’ gal!

WARNING:  If there’s okra, banana pepper or bell pepper in the garden, it will be PICKED and EATEN before Ruthie makes it inside!

Helping GiGi cook…

Thank you for stopping by!  My blog’s been a little neglected lately, but I’m looking forward to posting some fun, new photos of the kids soon!

“A Gentle and Quiet Spirit”

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment,

such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.

Rather, it should be that of your inner self,

the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,

which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

-1 Peter 3:3-4

There’s a beautiful story about Rayna’s heart.

It’s a story that started with a routine, prenatal ultrasound that, in a matter of seconds, revealed a problem in her little, unborn heart.  Between weeks of additional appointments and waiting to see a heart specialist, our family prayed and prayed that God would heal Rayna’s heart.

Not only was Rayna’s heart healed, we truly feel like God blessed her with an extra special one!

Nine years later, I continue to pray for Rayna’s heart.

I pray her heart will stay pure.
I pray her heart will hear God’s voice when He speaks to her.
I pray she learns to fight the urge to look to the world for approval, recognition and acceptance.

On a side note, the mom of Rayna’s close friend, also a friend of mine, asked me if we could start praying for the other person’s daughter.  It’s been a really neat practice that has caused me to be more intentional with who and what I pray for.  I’m so thankful she considered me!

Is there anyone YOU could challenge in YOUR life?!?!

Thipp & Addison

I may not always remember how old I am or how much my kids weighed at birth, but I DO remember all of my photography sessions.  Each one has been special; but, naturally, there are a few which marked me in a deep way.

When my church recently planned a fundraiser for ‘Saving Grace’, I was super excited to offer photography classes and donate a session.  When I met Thipp and she told me she had won the session, we were both really excited to spend an evening together and capture memories of she and her daughter, Addison, together.  Although we did capture great milestones, I walked away from their session feeling like God had given me a special gift I would always treasure.  To me, watching Addison running, playing, twirling, laughing and swinging, felt so ENCHANTING!

Missy Jacobs - Christy your photographs speak volumes of not only your talent but your love for life, others and especially the Lord. We are better people having known you. We love you dearly!!! Always praying.

Tom, Kim, Addison, Reagan, Gracyn and Gavin

When I first met Kim and her daughters at church taking care of babies, I was so impressed with the love and gentleness that naturally flowed from each one of them.  When the girls told me about their brother (who would officially be part of their family in a few weeks), I was not at all surprised that this wonderful family had opened their hearts and welcomed another child to love!

I’m so happy because TODAY is GAVIN’S Adoption Day!

Madison & Alan’s Engagement Session {Crystal Bridges}

I often tell people how much God blessed me to not only get Matthew, but to get his family too!  One of the people I am most thankful for is my niece, Madison!

Since I’ve gotten to document Madison’s life (birthdays, summer trips, memories, lunches, sneaking out), I was absolutely THRILLED to be there when she got ENGAGED during a trip to Arkansas!  Before she and Alan returned home, I got to document their engagement at one of our favorite places!
