God Game: Mud & Mire

When I first decided to read through the Bible, my only goal was to finish. Sadly, I had put it off WAY too long and was only doing it because I knew it was vital if I wanted to grow in my relationship with the Lord.

What I did NOT expect was the JOY I discovered! More days than not, my ‘assigned‘ reading spoke to me in a way that was clearly supernatural.

After finishing the Bible for the first time, I couldn’t wait to read it AGAIN! But this time, with a goal of finding FUN ways to share it with my kids!

Each week, my goal was to do a “God Game” with the kids after school. I incorporated fun snacks (Noah’s Ark = animal crackers; Jonah = gold fish), games, art or any other way the Lord and Pinterest led. The kids enjoyed our “God Game,” so I’ve tried to keep it up each week.

Recently, after hearing a sermon in NYC at Brooklyn Tabernacle Church on Psalms 40:1-3, I knew I wanted to go deeper with the kids. (This passage meant a LOT to me when I experienced depression.)

I made a big batch of chocolate pudding and set out all kinds of left-over Halloween candy. Each of us got a small pudding bowl to turn into a MUD PIT. (I wanted Oreo cookies to crumble-up as ‘dirt,’ but I couldn’t find any.)

I gave everyone a sheet of paper and asked them to write Psalms 40:1-3 with spaces between each sentence.

With different colored pens, we THEN read each line aloud, talked about other words that could also describe what the text was saying and made our own notes.

The kids had heard it before, but I was able to share again how God lifted me OUT of “the pit.” We also talked about the different meanings and symbolism that could be pulled from that scripture.

I hope this encourages you to SHARE God’s Word with the children in your life in a FUN and PERSONAL way! (If you come across other ideas, please share them with ME!)

Lastly, if you’d like to join me in 2020 and read through the Bible in a year, please text me and/or join the Facebook private group! With God’s help, I hope to post encouragement, MORE “God Games” (that go along with the text we’re reading) and more!

Lastly… Scripture memorization is IMPORTANT, but SO hard for me! But I’ve found so many great resources on YouTube and other apps to help! Check out this short SONG below! (Here’s full credit, but I like it better without the distraction of the visuals.)

New York Girl’s Trip

For my mom’s birthday, my sister and I thought it would be SUPER FUN to do a GIRL’S TRIP! We wrote her a poem for her special day and, before we knew it, our backpacks were loaded and we were getting dropped off at the airport!

I knew we would have a blast together, but the laughs, fun, food and memories we experienced were FAR more than I could have ever hoped for!

Kelli & her crew…

Kelli’s my girl. We met in kindergarten. (Here’s that photo I took of her when I brought in a camera for Show-N-Tell!)

She was so sweet to drive F-O-R-E-V-E-R away to come see me. I’m a bit sentimental, but I loved taking her kid’s photos on the land between my parent’s and grandparent’s house because Kelli and I shared SOOOOO many childhood memories right there!

Kate

For the past seven years, I’ve had the JOY of documenting Kate! Each year, we try to be super intentional about incorporating her hobbies and interests into her session.

I LOVE doing this for 2 reasons:
1. It’s REAL. (Nothing against throwing fake snow into the air for a Pinterest-shot, but if you’re not doing that in real life, I’ll probably try to talk you out of it.)
2. It perfectly DOCUMENTS (forever and ever and ever) that EXACT age and stage of a child’s life! (That’s also why I love doing Milestone photos! It’s a fun way to remember all the fun things about that season of life.)

This year, Bentley joined us!

The Martins

I had a choice to either post a lot of photos tomorrow or get a few out tonight. I thought Kellie would like them now, so…
