One Big, Happy (, Funny & Warm) Family!

If every child could grow up in a family like this, the world would be a wonderful place.  They were all so kind and caring.  Yet, between the six of them, we were laughing the whole time.  And talk about an abundant amount of love for Graceson!  Each parent, grandparent and great-grandparent was very clear he or she wanted their turn all alone with Graceson for photos.  (Speaking of which… Christine, Graceson’s mom, has a very creative idea for her wall space and these photographs.  A lot of my clients ask me for advice about picture placement and design in their home.  Perhaps when the finish product is delivered and mounted, Christine will let me take a picture of her display where I can share her great idea with some of you.)
It was very special to photograph FOUR GENERATIONS together.  As I photographed them all together, I looked down and LOVED the contrast of their hands together.

I can’t decide if I like the color or black and white best.  I posted both, so let me know which one if your favorite!

Miriam - Love, Love, Love the generation shots! We had some taken with my mom and grandmother when Micah was only several months old. I am so happy because my grandmother passed away right before Micah turned one.

Christine - We love the shots! I can’t wait to see them all – no pressure though. I think I like the generational hand shot in color best. I love the black and white with my Dad – I think it is my favorite. They are just great – Christy!

Morning Kisses

Ross climbed out the doggie door this morning while I was making breakfast.  He was sweet enough to kiss Rayna back and I was lucky enough to have my camera close by.

Phoenix Zoo

We took the kids to the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday.  Our close friends, Aaron & Hayley, decided to come along with us.
It’s funny… I use to go to the zoo carrying two different lens in hopes of getting some great animal shots.
Now, I go to the zoo carrying a diaper bag filled with wetwipes and snacks in hopes of leaving with both kids happy and ready for a nap.

Rayna, Matthew, me, Ross, Hayley & Aaron… trying to stay cool!

Good thing Matthew doesn’t check this blog very often.  Chances are, he wouldn’t be too excited about me posting a picture of him growling at the camera.  I don’t blame him, but, I couldn’t resist.  I thought it was another great picture Aaron took for me.

Aaron, took this picture while I was on the carousel with Rayna.  (I think he told Ross to growl like a lion.  Not sure.  I was too busy keeping a very nervous little girl from screaming her lungs out on her first carousel ride.  In any case, I just love this picture!  (Thanks, Aaron!)

2008 Holiday Sessions!

I am very excited to begin booking sessions for the 2008 Holiday Season!

Below are the dates and places I am currently scheduling:

  • Saturday, September 27th: Scottsdale Civic Center Library (Full)

  • Sunday, September 28th:  Scottsdale Civic Center Library (Full)

  • Saturday, October 4th:      Scottsdale Civic Center Library

  • Saturday, October 11th:    Power Ranch  (Only 1 Spot Left!)

  • Saturday, October 25th:    Downtown Scottsdale & Scottsdale Civic Center Library

  • Sunday, October 26th:      Scottsdale Civic Center Library

I am primarly shooting at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library because it is one of my favorite locations.  (I think you’ll love it too!)  It offers lots of great backgrounds for whatever your taste may be.  It is close to many of my clients in Gilbert, Phoenix, Chandler and Scottsdale.  I will be available for other dates and locations.  However, because of travel plans and other bookings, it may be difficult to schedule a weekend session at a location other than what is listed above.

Each session is $90.  If you are interested, please schedule your session as soon as possible.  Sessions are already starting to book-up quickly!

In the coming weeks, I will be featuring great Holiday Packages, gift-giving prints and Holiday Cards!  Also, I recommend a Christy Martin Photography Gift Certificate for (1) session and a print or package credit.  This is a fun and unique gift that keeps on giving!

Please note:  Because of time constraints, no Holiday Sessions will be taken in December.  I recommend scheduling your Holiday Session on or before Saturday, November 15th.  All Holiday orders are due by November 21st.  Some specialty items such as canvas and books will take 6-weeks, so please plan accordingly.

The 4:8 Principle

I often receive emails from photographers who either have questions on how to grow their existing photography business or want to know how to start a business.  Last month, an up-and-coming photographer from North Carolina emailed me with the loaded question, “Where do I start?”.  As we jumped from the business-side to cameras, she says she knows someone who has my camera and she really likes it.  She also mentioned wanting to buy a pre-owned camera to save a little money.  Then it dawned on me that I really wouldn’t mind doing a little upgrade myself…

So, my camera body and one lens is officially in Mount Pleasant, NC this morning.  I can’t wait to get my new camera today or tomorrow!  Meanwhile, since I don’t have any pictures to post this week, I thought this would be the perfect time to share something else.

My friend sent me this e-challenge, based on Tommy Newberry’s New York Times bestselling book.   His book, The 4:8 Principle: The Secret to a Joy-Filled Life, focuses on the Philippians 4:8.  Today’s email was about being thankful for everything and focusing on all of the wonderful things in all of our lives that often are overlooked.

Without getting too mushy, I wanted to express how thankful I am.  More than anything, I am thankful for two healthy children.  While working with NILMDTS, I’ve photographed way too many families who, instead of planning what their healthy baby is going to wear home from the hospital, they are having to plan what there baby will wear in her tiny casket.  It is such a sad reminder of how short life really is.

In addition to being thankful for my family’s health, I am also SO thankful to be doing what I always dreamed about!  I have the wonderful opportunity to do what I am so passionate about- photography.  Yes, it can be challenging being a full-time mom and wife, while managing my business.  But, I wouldn’t change a thing.  I count my blessings each day to be able to balance all of these awesome roles.

Holly Tolbert - I am thankful to have you in my life. 🙂

Amber - What a great post! 😉 Your right everyone (myself included) should sit back and look at the things that we are thankful for, and all the things gone right in our lives, instead of what has gone wrong! Thank You Christy Martin for coming into my life! God Bless!

Choco and his family

I had been home less than a mintue on Sunday when Ross turns the corner and says, “You take pictures of dog, Mama?  I wanna’ see!  I wanna’ see!”
Ross wasn’t the only one excited about Choco’s pictures!  I think Choco himself got a kick out of someone following him, well, chasing him, around for photographs.

I love this photograph for some reason.  It seems to tell a story.  (Well, maybe that’s a little too deep.  But, I still love this photo.)
This may simply look like a nice family portrait to you.  But, to me, it’s downloading over 20 shots of the same pose, only to say out loud, “YEAH!  YEAH!”  Choco is not only LOOKING at the camera (which is huge in dog-photography), but, he’s also smiling!!!  Thank you, Choco!
