Happiness Journal

New York Times Best Selling author Elizabeth Gilbert has spoken openly about a practice she started within her own life.  Although the idea is very basic, I feel the simple practice has the potential to greatly affect your life.

Basically, at the end of each day, take a moment to REFLECT and WRITE DOWN the moment during your day when you were the happiest.

This practice not only allows you to be more aware and grateful for your blessings, but it also draws attention to the things that truly bring you joy where you can begin to duplicate these moments, actions, thoughts or activities in your life on a daily basis.

As we hung-out with our family in Mississippi, I didn’t need to wait until the end of the day to know that the moments I was enjoying mid-afternoon would, hands-down, would be the highlight of my ENTIRE day.

Country roads…

Warm breeze…

Catching lizards…

My arms wrapped tightly around my 5-year old daughter as we screamed and bounced with each new bump Ross hit while driving us around on the 4-wheeler…

No emails.  No phone calls.  No computer.  No technology.

Oh, and did I forget to mention a peaceful and inviting front porch swing?!?!?

Ruthie couldn’t ride the 4-wheeler, but she COULD swing with her sister!

Just a few more snapshots…

Here’s the BOOK I’ve been using each day to document happiness or joy each day:  https://www.google.com/search?q=%22the+happiness+project%22+journal&biw=1755&bih=877&tbm=shop&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjytsj26IjSAhUE8mMKHTj1Cv8Q_AUIBigB&dpr=1#spd=15196158985267199505

Madi’s Senior Photos » Christy Martin Photography - […] I’ve blogged before about the importance of taking a few seconds to reflect on the time durin…  Not only does this habit promote gratefulness, it’s also a great way to really identify the common factors that bring you joy.  So on Sunday, after teaching the 4-year olds at church (which I LOVE), having a delicious meal (that I didn’t have to cook) and a gorgeous day with my family, want to know what my FAVORITE part of the ENTIRE day was?!?
