My Home Away from Home

I found myself at New Way Learning Academy once again!  This time, instead of photographing seniors or staff, I was asked to get some fun, candid shots of the kids for New Way’s website and marketing material.  Fun is easy at this school!  Most every student, although it was an early Monday morning, was ready for his or her turn in front of the camera!

Jack & Jenny

Jack & Jenny… Aren’t they adorable?  Jack was so patient with his little sister.  You could tell how much Jenny loved him because she wanted to do whatever he was doing.

I love how Jack is holding his skateboard in the shot.  To me, photographs are more than just smiling kids looking into the camera.  I think it’s great to show their personalities.

I could have created an entire Story Board just dedicated to the many faces of Jenny!  Between her facial expressions and hand gestures, she gets the prize for being most expressive!

My Two Favorite Subjects

Before getting this new blog, I mainly blogged to show my clients pictures from their recent sessions.   Sneak Peeks are great, but, there are other aspects of my life that I LOVE to photograph and really missed sharing.
I had a goal with my new blog to post more of everything I love.  Especially my two favorite subjects!

So, even if you stopped by thinking you’d browse my portfolio, take a second and enjoy that ‘I-know-I’m-going-too-fast-and-she’s-about-to-fall-off’ smile and those sweet, chubby legs!

Count Down

I am so excited ‘The Office’ starts back up tomorrow!  It’s the only show I actually watch each week.
Apparently, I am not the only person who needs a ‘Countdown to The Office’.

Confession…

I’m making travel plans this week for my trip back to Georgia in October.  (Yeah!)
I couldn’t be any more excited to see my family, throw Jimmie & Michelle’s baby shower AND photograph some new and existing clients.

But… with all this talk about Georgia, you’ll never guess what has been the MAIN thing on my mind all day…

Yes, for all of you who have been lucky enough to eat at The Varsity in Atlanta, this is what I have always ordered since I was a very little girl: Pickled-Chili Steak, Onion Rings and a PC (chocolate milk over crushed ice)!  I can’t wait to walk through those doors and hear those famous shouts from behind the counter.. “What’ll Ya Have?  What’ll Ya Have?”

The BEST $3.50 we have ever spent!

A friend from my MOMS Club recently told me about the new Mesquite Grove Aquatic Center.  Matthew, Ross, Rayna and I loved it so much the first day, we went back two days later!

The facility was incredibly clean…
The water was warm…
There were so many lifeguards on duty…
Great music playing in the background…
Not over-crowded…
VERY inexpensive!
(It was only $3.50 total for all of us!)

If you haven’t been, you’ve got to check it out.  There were 2 large slides, 2 small slides, a lazy-river, a whirlpool, diving boards, a HEATED spalsh area for babies and more!

Rayna could have floated in the lazy-river for days.  She was so relaxed.

Ross has a hard time understanding he’s barely three years old.  When he saw Matthew jumping from the diving board, he decided he wanted a turn.  Well, one jump turned into about twenty.  Because they don’t allow anyone waiting in the pool for the person jumping in, Ross got his exercise swimming to the side each time and running back to the line to do it all again.  Needless to say, he fell asleep very quickly tonight!

Matthew pointed out Rayna doing the exact same thing behind Ross.  I thought that was kind-of cute.

The heated splash area felt more like a hot shower.  It felt so great, I just wanted to lay down and take a nap in the middle of it.

Ross’ favorite was the big bucket that dumped water every few mintues.  I love his expression in the last picture after all the water had dumped on top of him.

Favorite Part of My Day

I was putting Ross to bed a few nights ago…

Me:       Ross, what was your favorite part of the day today?
Ross:    Wata’ we do today?
Me:       Well, we cleaned-up the playroom, got a cookie at Wal-Mart, cooked dinner and went swimming.
Ross:    Uhhh… my favorite was cookin’ with Mama.

Ross and I LOVE to cook together!  He gets the food we need, climbs up on the island and gets to work.  He already knows the difference between vegetable and olive oil, which spices go best with chicken on the grill and how to make sweet tea.  Yes… the really GOOD (and bad for you) Georgia-kind.

Anyways, we came up with a spaghetti dish with some ingredients we had on hand.  We loved it, so, I thought I’d share…

  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • sliced mushrooms
  • fresh Rosemary
  • 1 large can diced tomatoes
  • 1 small package of spaghetti noodles
  • olive oil, salt/pepper
  • mozzarella cheese
  • parmesan cheese

Cook noodles as directed.  Heat veggies, garlic and rosemary in pan with olive oil.  Add tomatoes.  Mix noodles and sauce.  Add mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top.  Bake 30-45 minutes.

(When I have carrots and celery on hand, I add those to the vegetable mix as well.)

Enjoy!

Poor Baby-Girl

My baby girl had her first accident last night.  She was climbing on the playground (trying to be like the big kids) and slipped.  She’s obviously happy today, but, it looked pretty bad last night.

Back to the Pool!

Ross and Rayna have been feeling yucky the past few days.  Since we normally go swimming every day, a week felt like a year away from the pool.  Ross, who was starting to feel better yesterday, said, “My wanna’ go to the pool.  My still sick?”
It was so nice to get out of the house and enjoy the weather.

My little curly-haired girly-girl.

This sums up our days now:
Ross trying to be sweet = Rayna getting really irritated.

Matthew really isn’t crazy about having his picture taken alone.  But, I managed to get one before we left the pool.  I just love his eyes with the contrast of the water.

Sneak Peek: Addison

Addison and those beautiful blue eyes…

This was a candid moment when her dad was putting her dress on.  I just love the contrast between his manly arms and those tiny, girly ruffles!

I had to add this picture because I think it’s so funny.  This is the pitiful look their dog was giving us while we were outside finishing-up.  But, I’m happy to report that she cheered-up when her gate was open and got to be in some pictures with Addison.

Sneak Peek: Shane & Alison

It was so hard to choose my favorite images from this session!  These boys were so cute and great to be around.  The shoot was filled with running, playing, watching the ducks and a trip to the playground when we finished.

I received an email from Alison the next day which I have to share.  I love getting emails like this:

Blake talked about you all day and was asking when we can go to the park again to get pictures with Christy.  He also said that was his favorite part of the day when we talked about the day last night.”
